DESCRIPTION:Get Outdoors & Get Together Day events will be held at select locations across New York on Saturday\, June 10. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the State Office of Parks\, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks)\, in partnership with the Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and the NYS Division of Veterans’ Services\, are hosting free and low-cost events to connect people to nature and provide increased access to the outdoors. Get Outdoors & Get Together Day will bring people of all abilities\, ages\, identities\, and backgrounds together for fun\, healthful activities as part of the state’s initiative to broaden the diversity of users and ensure inclusivity of access to state public lands. \nFREE games\, events\, and guided fishing\, hiking\, paddling\, camping\, birding\, archery\, and more.  All locations will offer a selection of accessible activities; and use of adaptive equipment and demonstrations will be provided at many sites.  Celebrate New York’s spectacular outdoor spaces in this inclusive one-day event at a location near you. \n\n\n\nMost events will run from 10am – 2 pm however there is some variation. DESCRIPTION:What is WNY iCan Bike?\niCan Shine Bike Camp uses adapted bicycles\, a specialized instructional program\, and trained staff to enable individuals with disabilities to learn to ride a two-wheeled bicycle.\nRiders attend one 75-minute session each day for five consecutive days where they learn to ride while accompanied and encouraged by volunteer “spotters”. Over the course of the week\, we continually adjust the bikes in an effort to challenge riders appropriately as they gradually discover the skill and joy of riding. \nWe are happy to announce we will be having a bike camp from June 26- June 30\, 2023 at Niagara Frontier Sports.\nRegistration is now open! Scroll down or visit our “Rider Registration” tab to register! \nAre you a rider?  To register for the camp\, participants must meet the following criteria: \nHave a diagnosed disability.\nBe at least eight years old.\nHave a minimum inseam of 20 inches.\nWeigh less than 220 pounds.\nBe able to walk without assistive devices.\nBe able to side-step quickly.\n​Be able and willing to wear a properly fitted helmet. \nRegistration is now open! She has been awarded $4.72 million in external grant funding\, including the NSF CAREER Award\, and her research has been featured by popular news media outlets\, including ABC News\, NPR\, Psychology Today\, and U.S. News and World Report.
