• Parental mental health is important. Get help for yourself and model how to overcome challenges and ultimately become more resilient.
• Mental health issues are common. Educate yourself and others about mental illness.
• It’s important to seek treatment early. If not treated, mental illness can get worse and be dangerous. Discuss concerns with your child’s pediatrician early on.
• In New York, all schools are required to provide mental health education in the classroom.
• There are systems, services and support available for families if you and/or your child have a mental health issue.

About Your Host
Dr. Dina Spiropoulos, MD, is a pediatrician who provides trauma-sensitive care for inpatient children and teens at the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center.
She previously partnered with mental health specialists to bring universal maternal depression and social emotional screening with linkage to needed services at a private practice pediatric group.
